About this position
Post Doctoral Scholar in Neurology at The Ohio State University is an immediate-start research position in the Department of Medicine | Neurology, based in the Desplats Lab. The appointment is centered on specialized postdoctoral research training under the guidance of a scientific mentor in a top-ranked academic health center.
The project examines how altered epigenetic mechanisms contribute to adult neurodegenerative disorders, with particular attention to circadian deregulation. The lab’s program has a strong background in alpha-synuclein propagation, epigenetic analyses in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, and circadian modulation in mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease. This new postdoctoral project focuses on comprehensive multi-omic analysis of circadian desynchrony as a trigger of accelerated aging and neurodegeneration.
The successful researcher will work with cellular and mouse models and use CRISPR and Cre/flox tools alongside transcriptional and epigenetic approaches. The role involves designing and executing complex experiments, collecting and analyzing data, developing and troubleshooting methods, supporting seminars and manuscript preparation, and contributing to grant applications. The environment is strongly research oriented, with emphasis on rigorous experimental work, collaborative science, and publication-focused output.
The position sits within the Desplats Lab in the Department of Neurology at Ohio State’s medical campus and is intended for a scientist interested in mechanistic neurodegeneration research at the interface of epigenetics, circadian biology, and multi-omic analysis.

What's required
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in neuroscience, molecular biology, or cell biology. Candidates should have strong research skills, data analysis proficiency, statistical expertise, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Previous work in chronobiology is required, including a theoretical understanding of circadian rhythms and experience collecting and analyzing rhythmic datasets. Hands-on experience with ChIP-seq, snRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, and spatial-omics is expected, along with advanced tissue culture skills, gene modulation, and CRISPR experience preferred. Expertise in mouse models of neurodegeneration, including stereotactic injections, brain sectioning, and immunostaining, is highly preferred. Proven proficiency with complex bioinformatic pipelines will be prioritized.
