About this position
This postdoctoral opportunity at Eindhoven University of Technology focuses on data interaction for remote patient monitoring in the heart failure care pathway. The project is based in the Industrial Design Department, within the Computational Design Systems cluster, and is closely connected to hospital partners including Máxima Medisch Centrum and Catharina Ziekenhuis Eindhoven, as well as MedTech collaborators such as LUSCII, BeterDichtbij, AIKON, and Philips.
The research tackles an important challenge in hybrid care: how to support large-scale, sustainable remote patient monitoring without relying on rigid centralized data integration. Instead, the project develops a data interaction approach in which data remains in its source systems but can be made available in real time and on demand to authorized users and applications. The postdoc will lead the design of a unified, cross-institutional heart failure care pathway, help define system-independent care-process-driven data definitions, and support implementation and evaluation in daily clinical practice.
The position is highly interdisciplinary and combines design research, healthcare innovation, health IT, interoperability, service design, and implementation work in a real hospital environment. A key goal is to develop transferable methodological insights and a design research agenda spanning clinical, technical, implementation, and business perspectives. The project is also linked to the Eindhoven MedTech Innovation Center (eMTIC).
The ideal candidate has a PhD in Industrial Design, HCI, Interaction Design, Health/Medical Informatics, Innovation Science, Management, or a related field, along with strong research output and experience with co-creation and care-pathway design. Dutch and English proficiency are required, with Dutch explicitly described as a hard requirement for working effectively in the hospital setting.
Employment is offered for 2 years on a full-time basis. The salary follows the Dutch university collective agreement at scale 10, with additional year-end bonus and vacation pay. The application deadline is 2026-07-25, and applicants must submit a cover letter, CV with publications and references, and up to five best publications through the online application system.

What's required
Applicants must have a PhD in Industrial Design, HCI, Interaction Design, Health/Medical Informatics, Innovation Science, Management, or a comparable domain. Candidates should demonstrate high-quality academic research through a relevant PhD thesis and publications in design research, healthcare innovation, data-driven or hybrid care, or health-IT/interoperability. Experience with designing complex service or care processes and translating them into workable, validated care pathways is required, along with strong co-creation and service design skills such as journey maps, service blueprints, and stakeholder maps. Applicants should have affinity with the technical aspects of data interaction, a hands-on ability to create data definitions and translate technical requirements, strong communication and cooperation skills with clinical, technical, industrial, and academic partners, and excellent Dutch and English; Dutch is a hard requirement for effective work in the hospital setting.
