About this position
This postdoctoral position at Wageningen University & Research sits in the Information Technology Group and contributes to the Horizon Europe project STRONG-BIO (Strategic Tool for PhytoPathogen Resistance Oversight in Next-Generation BIOcontrol). The project addresses sustainable crop protection by building adaptive decision-support capabilities that can combine heterogeneous data sources and predictive models into usable, traceable, and reliable services.
The researcher will work on the computational and systems side of the project, with a strong emphasis on AI-enabled predictive services and interoperable decision-support architectures. The work spans reference architecture design, data and model integration, hybrid AI approaches, and the validation of prototypes in real-world living-lab and farm innovation scenarios. The postdoc will help connect resistance monitoring, eDNA, climate, sensing, epidemiological, evolutionary, and field-validation inputs into a coherent flow from evidence to prediction, recommendation, action, and feedback.
The role is explicitly research-oriented and aims to produce reusable scientific methods and architectural principles, not only project software. Key themes include uncertainty handling, provenance, explainability, traceability, reliability, interoperability, and generalisation. The position offers the chance to collaborate with an international consortium and with researchers, domain experts, and MSc students at Wageningen University & Research while working in a data-intensive, interdisciplinary environment focused on agriculture, food, health, and the environment.
