About this position
Wageningen University & Research is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in AI-enabled decision support and data integration for sustainable crop protection. The position is based in Wageningen, Netherlands, within the Information Technology Group and contributes to the Horizon Europe STRONG-BIO project.
The researcher will design architectures and interoperability approaches for heterogeneous biological, environmental, molecular, sensor, and operational data and models. The work includes developing AI and data-analytics methods, hybrid models combining data-driven, epidemiological, and evolutionary approaches, and adaptive decision-support systems with uncertainty handling, provenance, explainability, traceability, and reliability.
The role offers an interdisciplinary research environment involving AI, machine learning, data engineering, software and systems architecture, knowledge representation, trustworthy AI, FAIR data, and agricultural life-science applications. The researcher will develop and evaluate prototypes with international consortium partners in Living Lab and Core Innovation Farm scenarios, publish scientific results, contribute to project deliverables and workshops, and supervise MSc thesis projects.
Applicants need a PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, software engineering, systems engineering, information systems, or a related field, along with relevant research experience, programming skills preferably in Python, an appropriate publication record, and strong communication and collaboration skills. English proficiency at C1 level is required. The intended start date is around 1 March 2027.
The full-time position offers approximately €3,546–€5,538 gross monthly for 38 hours per week, with an initial one-year contract intended for extension by two additional years. Apply online with a CV and motivation letter by 1 December 2026.
