About this position
Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in AI for radio localization and sensing within the Communication Systems Group at the Department of Electrical Engineering. This research-driven role focuses on advancing AI and machine learning methods for robust radio-based positioning and sensing, including localization, tracking, and integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) for 6G networks. The project combines physical modeling, probabilistic inference, and modern machine learning to address challenges such as dataset shift, limited labels, and real-world constraints.
As a postdoc, you will join a dynamic AI team of four or more full-time researchers and collaborate with international partners. You will be expected to lead research efforts, publish in top venues, support funding applications, and contribute to the growth of the AI team. The research directions include model-based machine learning, active inference and world models, and robust and secure ML. The department is renowned for its work in communications, antennas, optical networks, systems and control, signal processing, biomedical engineering, and electric power engineering, with a strong commitment to sustainable and smart solutions for societal challenges.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent foreign degree by the time of employment decision. Essential qualifications include strong written and verbal English skills, demonstrated experience with machine learning methods and research software development, basic knowledge of wireless communication systems, and a strong publication record in leading venues. Evidence of research independence and project ownership is highly valued. Additional experience in international collaboration, wireless communication, radio positioning, sensing, ISAC, model-based machine learning, active inference/world models, and robust and secure ML will strengthen your application. Candidates with a strong AI/ML background are especially encouraged to apply; wireless domain expertise is welcome but not required.
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. The role is primarily on-site in Gothenburg, with occasional work from home within Sweden possible by agreement. Research visits abroad are encouraged when aligned with project goals, but remote work from outside Sweden is not permitted except during approved research visits. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.
Chalmers offers a supportive and lively intellectual environment, employee benefits including salary, healthcare, parental leave, subsidized day care, and free schools, and is dedicated to improving gender balance through initiatives like GENIE. Swedish language courses are available, though the working language is English. The university fosters scientific excellence, global commitment, and entrepreneurship, with a strong focus on sustainability.
To apply, prepare your application in English and attach as PDF files (maximum 40 MB each). Submit a comprehensive CV with publication list, details of pedagogical and funding experience, and any open source contributions. Include a personal letter outlining your research background and future goals. Use the application form via the provided link; incomplete applications or those sent by email will not be considered. References will be requested after the interview. The application deadline is February 28, 2026. For questions, contact Professor Henk Wymeersch at [email protected].
