About this position
Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral position in bio-polymer based electrolytes at the Division of Applied Chemistry, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The department is renowned for its broad research and education in chemistry and chemical engineering, offering an international environment with expertise spanning fundamental chemistry, materials science, renewable energy, and applied chemical engineering. The division focuses on applied research addressing societal challenges, with application areas including fossil-free fuels, electronic devices, health technology, and catalysis.
The research project centers on bio-polymer based electrolytes, where the bio-polymer composition is defined and the liquid phase is aqueous with various salts based on mono- or multi-valent cations. The project is at a stage where vibrational spectroscopy, especially under variable conditions such as temperature and hydration, is crucial for material development. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of seniors and postdocs, planning and performing measurements using Raman and infrared spectrometers, designing sample cells, analyzing data, and communicating results through presentations and scientific articles. Complementary experiments to NMR measurements and opportunities to supervise younger students are also part of the role.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in chemistry, physics, or materials science (or equivalent foreign degree) by the time of employment decision. Strong English communication skills, experience in Raman spectroscopy with advanced cells, materials in the liquid state, and material synthesis are mandatory. Additional experience in crystallography and differential scanning calorimetry is advantageous. The degree should have been obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline. Physical presence is required throughout the two-year full-time employment, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.
Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment in Gothenburg, Sweden, with generous employee benefits, including parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare. The university is committed to gender balance and equality, with initiatives such as the GENIE project. Swedish language courses are available for non-native speakers.
To apply, submit your application via the online form by 16 May 2026, including your CV, publication list, and personal letter as PDF files. Applications sent by email or incomplete applications will not be considered. References will be requested after the interview. For questions, contact Professor Anna Martinelli at [email protected].
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in polymer chemistry and materials science at a leading European institution.
