About this position

Karolinska Institutet is advertising a postdoctoral position in translational cardiovascular research with a strong focus on cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (cardiac MRI / heart-MR). The project is led by Jannike Nickander in the research group for Clinical Physiology and is centered on understanding and diagnosing coronary microvascular dysfunction in patients without obstructive coronary artery disease.

The postdoc will play a central role in planning and coordinating the study, prospectively collecting exercise test data and heart-MR images, analyzing imaging and clinical data, and integrating prior CMR parameters such as quantitative perfusion, scar, and edema. The work also includes processing and integrating data from exercise testing, blood biomarkers, and multi-omics analyses, as well as statistical analysis, interpretation, manuscript writing, and scientific publication.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree recognized as comparable to a Swedish doctorate. A doctorate in medicine, biomedicine, physiology, medical engineering, bioinformatics, or a related field is preferred. Strong English skills are required. Because the role involves participant inclusion and clinical examinations, Swedish medical licensure or equivalent is required. Experience in cardiovascular research, cardiac MRI, image analysis, clinical cohort studies, biomarker analysis, statistics, programming, and omics data analysis is highly meritorious.

The position is based at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, with close collaboration between clinical and academic partners and access to a unique patient material from five major hospitals in Stockholm. The appointment is full-time and fixed-term. The application deadline is 2026-05-26.

To apply, use the Varbi recruitment system and submit the required documents: proof of PhD, a complete CV including dissertation date and thesis title, a full publication list, and a one-page summary of current work. Application materials may be written in English or Swedish.
