Aarhus University’s Department of Public Health is inviting applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in Community Health Literacy, based at the Research Center for Health Literacy and Equity (REACH). The position focuses on advancing research in community health literacy, emphasizing the shared competencies, resources, and social support structures that enable communities to foster and sustain health literacy. The research program addresses challenges such as inconsistent definitions of community, fragmented initiatives, and limited sustainability, aiming to strengthen conceptual foundations and develop intervention models.
As a postdoc, you will join an internationally recognized department and collaborate with a diverse team of researchers, including Professor Helle Terkildsen Maindal (Center Director), Associate Professor Knud Ryom, and Associate Professor Anna Aaby. The department is known for its interdisciplinary approach and commitment to promoting public health through research, teaching, and collaboration with stakeholders at local, national, and international levels.
Your main responsibilities will include conducting independent research and publishing high-quality work, performing a systematic review on community health literacy, and developing conceptual frameworks. You will also contribute to the center’s activities, including teaching, dissemination, and administrative tasks, and participate in the development of evaluation methodologies for community health literacy research. The position may involve some teaching assignments.
Applicants must hold a PhD in public health science, sociology, or a related field, with strong expertise in health literacy and/or health equity. Essential qualities include innovation, open-mindedness, strong interpersonal skills, and fluency in English. The application must include a CV, degree certificate, publication list, teaching portfolio, and up to five relevant publications. Optional documents such as a research plan and references may also be submitted.
The position is fully funded for two years, with salary and employment conditions governed by the collective agreement for academics in the state. The workplace is located at the Department of Public Health, Aarhus University, Denmark. The application deadline is February 15, 2026, with an expected start date of May 1, 2026.
