Postdoc in Energy Technology and Policy Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden

Chalmers University of Technology is advertising a postdoctoral position in energy technology and policy within the Energy Technology and Policy (ENTAP) group at the Division of Physical Resource Theory in Gothenburg, Sweden. The project asks how fast new climate technologies can grow and what policy can realistically do to accelerate them, with a focus on data-driven foresight methods and probabilistic modelling.

The postdoc will work on policy-driven low-carbon technologies, including established technologies such as solar and wind as well as emerging options such as hydrogen. The research is interdisciplinary and connects technical and social sciences, with a broader interest in sustainability transitions, climate change, and the realism of energy and climate futures. The position is embedded in a research group with national projects, an international network, shared workspaces, and regular seminars.

The main tasks include developing and applying probabilistic foresight models, exploring uncertainty in technology projections, and analysing how policy interventions can accelerate technological change. Teaching or related duties may account for up to 20% of working time.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree in energy studies, environmental science, complex systems studies, economics, public policy, political science, or a related area. Strong quantitative and analytical skills are required, including data analysis and scientific computing in R or Python, along with excellent English communication skills. Prior experience in energy transitions research is mandatory, while experience in technology foresight modelling, policy analysis, and publishing in high-impact journals will strengthen the application.

The appointment is a temporary full-time position for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence throughout the employment is required, and a valid residence permit must be available by the start date.
