About this position

Postdoc opportunity in optomechanical infrared sensing at TU Delft, in collaboration with AMOLF and the QSTeM testbed for mechanical sensing.

The project focuses on the development of cutting-edge optomechanical sensors, starting with infrared sensing and imaging. The work spans device and material engineering, nanofabrication, optical characterization, and measurement protocols, with attention to how material properties, thermal transport, and device geometry affect sensor performance.

The postdoc will work day-to-day with the joint TU Delft and AMOLF teams in Delft, and will also contribute to benchmarking and characterization services for external academic and industrial partners. The role is embedded in the Gröblacher group at the Department of Quantum Nanoscience, with access to mentoring, group activities, and advanced cleanroom facilities.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in optomechanics, nanophotonics, nano-engineering, applied physics, or a related field; strong hands-on nanofabrication experience; experience in experimental optics/photonics/optomechanics/nanomechanics/optical sensing; collaborative communication skills. Numerical modelling and finite-element simulation are advantageous, and infrared sensing or advanced sensing protocols are a plus.

Funding and terms: 2-year temporary postdoc contract, 38 hours/week, salary range €3706–€5760, with Dutch university employment benefits, pension, leave, and training opportunities.

Application deadline: 11 November 2026. Apply online with a cover letter and CV via the application button; applications by email or post will not be processed.

What's required

PhD in optomechanics, nanophotonics, nano-engineering, applied physics, or a related field. Strong hands-on experience with nanofabrication and development of nanoscale, photonic, or optomechanical devices is required. Experience with experimental optics, photonics, optomechanics, nanomechanics, or optical sensing is expected. Interest in device and material engineering, including material properties and thermal transport, is important. Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills are required; numerical modelling and finite-element simulation are an advantage, and prior infrared sensing, multimode mechanical systems, or advanced sensing protocols are a plus.

How to apply

Apply online via the application button no later than 11 November 2026. Upload a cover letter and CV, and address the application to Simon Groeblacher. Do not send applications by email or post.
