About this position
The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) Construct invites applications for a three-year, full-time postdoctoral position in Predictive Human Digital Twins for Human-Centred Systems Engineering, based in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.
The project develops coupled digital twins of humans and technical systems—Digital Twin Couples—to predict how individuals interact with products, assistive devices, and robots. The successful researcher will integrate personalised neuromusculoskeletal models with digital twins to predict movement, interaction forces, and user effort, and validate these predictions experimentally.
Responsibilities include developing co-simulation methods; combining physics-based and data-driven approaches; designing participant validation studies and ethics applications; helping establish a living lab for human-technology interaction; developing an open software framework; contributing to teaching; co-supervising MSc students; mentoring junior researchers; publishing research; and supporting proposals.
Applicants need a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Engineering Design, or a related discipline. Relevant publications, programming expertise, and experience with OpenSim, AnyBody, SCONE, or comparable tools are expected. Experience in co-simulation, predictive simulation, design optimisation, hybrid machine learning, motion capture, wearable sensors, EMG, virtual product development, human-robot interaction, or exoskeletons will strengthen an application.
The position is salaried under the Danish collective agreement for academic staff. Employment lasts three years, with an expected start date of 1 March 2027 or by agreement. Apply online by 1 December 2026 at 23:59 Danish time, submitting one PDF in English containing a cover letter, CV, MSc and PhD diplomas, publication list, a two-page research statement, and two references. Further information is available from Jörg Miehling at [email protected].

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Engineering Design, or a related field. A publication record in musculoskeletal modelling, human movement simulation, or a closely related area is required, along with strong programming skills and hands-on experience with OpenSim, AnyBody, SCONE, or comparable tools. Experience with co-simulation, predictive simulation, design optimisation, hybrid machine learning, and experimental movement studies such as motion capture, wearable sensors, or EMG is sought. Initiative, independence, and excellent English communication skills are required. Experience with virtual product development, human-robot interaction, exoskeletons, or supervision is advantageous.
