About this position
TU Delft is recruiting a Postdoc in Protection and Control of DC Microgrid for Electric Aircraft within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS), in the DC Systems, Energy Conversion and Storage research area.
This position focuses on electrical engineering, power electronics, DC microgrids, stability analysis, protection and control, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and electric aircraft. The research aims to develop efficient, stable, and fault-resilient DC microgrids for sustainable aviation, from converter-level power conversion and fault handling to system-level architecture design and validation.
The successful candidate will develop digital models of energy sources, storage, converters, and aircraft loads; design DC microgrid architectures; implement an HIL test platform; investigate DC fault dynamics under pole-to-pole and pole-to-ground faults; and develop coordinated protection and control strategies. Simulation and HIL experiments will be used to validate the proposed solutions.
Essential requirements include a completed PhD in a highly quantitative and analytical discipline, strong research experience in electronic power conversion and DC systems, demonstrable HIL or power-system simulation experience, and excellent English communication skills. Preferred expertise includes DC microgrid control, stability analysis, and electric aircraft knowledge.
The appointment is for 2 years and 2 months at 38-40 hours per week. Salary and benefits follow the Dutch universities collective agreement, with a salary range of €3706-€5760. Additional benefits include a pension scheme, flexible working, leave hours, training opportunities, and partially paid parental leave.
Applicants should apply online by 10 November 2026 and upload a CV and motivational letter. Applications sent by email or post will not be processed. The application is addressed to Dr. Wenli Shi at TU Delft.
