About this position
ETH Zürich invites applications for a Postdoc in Resilient Satellite Navigation (GNSS) within the Chair of Space Geodesy, led by Prof. Benedikt Soja. This position is ideal for researchers passionate about advancing navigation resilience and tackling signal interference challenges. The team is recognized for innovative methods in space- and ground-based geodetic and navigation applications, focusing on high-precision, continuous, and real-time positioning. Their work leverages machine learning for Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) and geomonitoring, including signal characterization and anomaly detection.
The successful candidate will lead GNSS-based research and support ongoing projects related to GNSS and PNT. Responsibilities include developing GNSS software using Factor Graph Optimization, implementing multi-sensor fusion strategies, advancing real-time GNSS processing for jamming and spoofing mitigation, integrating AI/ML concepts, and working with GNSS equipment and simulators. Academic leadership is expected through high-impact publications and grant applications, as well as teaching and supervision of PhD and Master students.
Applicants must have a PhD in Geodesy, Geomatics, Aerospace Engineering, Signal Processing, or a related field, with proven GNSS data analysis and processing experience. Strong programming skills (Python, C++) and fluency in English are required. Experience with Factor Graph Optimization, sensor fusion, or AI/ML is advantageous. CH/EU/EFTA citizenship or a valid Swiss work permit and proficiency in German are beneficial. The team values analytical, self-motivated, and interdisciplinary candidates.
ETH Zürich offers unique access to GNSS networks, independent research opportunities, a dynamic international team, and a supportive environment. Benefits include salary according to ETH standards, flexible working hours, part-time home office, and an attractive workplace. The position is full-time (100%) Postdoc or, for advanced candidates, as an Established Researcher (Oberassistent), with an initial contract of 2 years and possible extension. The ideal start date is 1 July 2026 or earlier.
ETH Zürich is a world-leading university specializing in science and technology, renowned for excellent education, fundamental research, and knowledge transfer. The institution values diversity, sustainability, and equal opportunity, fostering a climate-neutral future and an inclusive culture.
To apply, submit your complete application online via the ETH Zurich portal, including a motivation letter, CV, publication list, transcripts, certificates, and contact details of two referees. Applications via email or postal services are not accepted. Evaluation begins 20 April 2026 and continues until the position is filled. For questions, contact Prof. Benedikt Soja at [email protected] (questions only).
