About this position

Inria Saclay is advertising a postdoctoral research visit in robust optimisation of bifurcation diagrams for flutter design. The project sits at the intersection of mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, non-linear dynamics, uncertainty quantification, robust optimisation, and aeroelasticity, with a strong computational and modelling component.

The postdoc will work in the PLATON project-team at Inria Saclay, in collaboration with Center for Applied Mathematics (CMAP), École Polytechnique and Ecole de l'Air et de l'Espace. The research aims to develop methods for uncertainty propagation in stochastic nonlinear dynamic systems, robust optimisation of bifurcation diagrams, and application to a real-world flutter mitigation case for a HALE drone. Surrogate-based strategies will be explored to reduce the cost of expensive bifurcation and uncertainty propagation computations.

Eligibility: candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent in mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field. A background in non-linear dynamics, uncertainty quantification, robust optimisation, or related areas is expected. Proficiency in scientific computing, especially Python or Matlab, is required.

Funding and contract: fixed-term postdoctoral contract for 18 months, starting no later than January 2027. The location is Palaiseau, France. Salary is about 2788€ gross/month. The position is funded by ANR FlexHALE.

How to apply: submit the application online on the Inria website. Prepare a detailed academic CV, PhD evaluation documents if available, and a cover letter explaining your fit for the role. Contact E. Denimal Goy and B. Chouvion for further details.
