About this position

Postdoc in skeletal muscle growth and metabolism at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports (NEXS), in the Muscle Growth and Metabolism Group / August Krogh Section for Human and Molecular Physiology.

This 2-year postdoctoral project focuses on skeletal muscle biology, exercise physiology, molecular physiology, and metabolism. The research investigates how novel pharmacological compounds regulate muscle hypertrophy and insulin sensitivity, with emphasis on acute and chronic drug effects, muscle signalling, glucose uptake, protein synthesis, and recovery from disuse-induced atrophy.

The work includes mouse studies, ex vivo muscle incubations, AAV-mediated gene targeting, unilateral immobilisation/reloading models, molecular and metabolic analyses, histology, microscopy, transcriptomics, phosphoproteomics, and collaboration on engineered human muscle tissue with DTU. The project is part of an ongoing collaboration with industrial and academic partners, including Associate Professor Johan U. Lind (DTU).

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in exercise or molecular physiology, molecular biology, biomedicine, or a related field; hands-on experience with in vivo mouse models and skeletal muscle biochemistry; strong publication record; fluent English. Desirable experience includes CRISPR/AAV, muscle glucose metabolism, insulin signalling, omics, advanced muscle cell culture, and FELASA accreditation.

Funding/terms: fixed-term postdoc for 2 years, full-time (37 hours/week). Salary starts at 39,900 DKK/month plus pension contribution, with possible supplement depending on qualifications.

Deadline: 20 October 2026 at 11:59 PM CET. Interviews are expected in November.

How to apply: submit the online application with a cover letter, CV, publication list, PhD diploma, and 2–3 references. Contact Professor Thomas Elbenhardt Jensen for questions.
