About this position
DTU Electro is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for the EQUAL project, Erbium-based Silicon Quantum Light Sources, focused on theoretical quantum information processing with spin-photon interfaces in silicon.
The project develops chip-scale quantum light sources with embedded quantum memories using erbium emitters in ultracompact, tunable silicon nanocavities. Erbium offers semiconductor compatibility, potentially long spin coherence, and emission in the low-loss telecom C-band, while strong Purcell enhancement is needed to address its weak optical transition.
The postdoctoral researcher will develop theoretical protocols that connect individual quantum emitters to scalable quantum networks and information processors. Research may include large-scale entanglement generation, entanglement purification, quantum error correction, spin-photon gates, Bell-state measurements, quantum optimal control, heralding schemes, and new encodings using spectral and other forms of multiplexing.
The work will map device performance requirements under realistic loss and decoherence and investigate EQUAL’s NEMS-based meshes of cavities with embedded erbium spins. The research builds on DTU’s recirculating quantum photonic network architecture, programmable linear circuits, reconfigurable hardware, and open-source simulation tools.
The researcher will work closely with the experimental team at DTU Electro and collaborators at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Beamfox, and Lizard Photonics. The role also includes opportunities to mentor BSc, MSc, and PhD students and develop an international research profile through collaborations and conferences.

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent and have a strong theoretical background in quantum optics and/or quantum information science, together with experience in scientific programming in Python and/or Julia. Desired qualifications include numerical optimal control or coherent control of spin or atomic systems, open quantum systems, photonic integrated circuits or spin-photon interfaces, and quantum error correction or entanglement purification. Candidates should work independently and creatively, take ownership of their work, and enjoy working at the interface between theory and experiment.
How to apply
Submit the complete online application through the DTU “Apply now” portal by 20 November 2026 at 23:59 Danish time. Upload all materials in English as one PDF containing a cover letter, CV, MSc/PhD diplomas, and publication list.
