About this position
This postdoctoral position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology offers a unique opportunity to advance research in trustworthy DevOps for autonomous vehicles (AVs). The project is part of a Swedish national research initiative and is situated within the Trustworthy Cyber-Physical Systems research group, led by Professor Martin Törngren. The research aims to bridge the gap between traditional DevOps practices and the requirements of safety-critical systems, focusing specifically on automated vehicles operating in open environments.
Key challenges addressed include ensuring continuous assurance of automotive systems, adapting DevOps to support safety-critical operations, and integrating field data with classic verification methods to maintain safety during system updates and evolving behaviors. The project is highly collaborative, involving academic researchers and industrial partners, and offers excellent opportunities for experimental evaluation and case studies.
As a postdoc, you will contribute to research, participate in collaborative projects, and may engage in educational activities such as supervising MSc thesis projects and PhD students. The position is open to candidates with strong backgrounds in safety engineering, software engineering, or closely related fields, ideally with experience in meta modeling and contract-based design. The research direction is flexible, as outlined in a recent position paper.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in software engineering, computer science, safety or systems engineering, vehicle systems, or a relevant area. Preferred qualifications include a PhD obtained within the last three years, experience in architectural design of technical systems, automotive industry experience, and expertise in safety-critical systems development. Strong skills in software engineering, programming, research, and presentation are required. Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, collaborative abilities, and independence are valued.
KTH is a leading international technical university, committed to education, research, and innovation for a sustainable society. The institution offers a creative and dynamic environment, attractive benefits, and emphasizes equality, diversity, and equal opportunities as core values.
The position is full-time, temporary (up to two years), and based in Stockholm, Sweden. The application deadline is June 26, 2026. Applicants must submit a complete application via KTH's recruitment system, including CV, diplomas, grades, translations if necessary, and a brief statement of research interests and goals. Security clearance may be required for certain roles.
