About this position

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in ultrafast spectroscopy on two-dimensional materials for quantum photonics in Delft, Netherlands.

The project aims to develop defect-based single-photon emitters in two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the formation, motion, and decay of photogenerated charge carriers and excitons, including their transport to engineered defect sites such as atomic vacancies and regions of local strain.

The work will use ultrafast pump-probe laser spectroscopy, including optical transient absorption (TA), photoluminescence (PL), and terahertz conductivity detection. Depending on experience and interests, the researcher may also contribute to computational modelling using DFT, GW, and BSE methods. The project is conducted by TU Delft’s Faculty of Applied Sciences in collaboration with two PhD students at the University of Amsterdam, Toyota Motor Europe, and Quix, a photonic quantum-computing company.

Applicants should hold a PhD and a relevant university degree in physics, materials science, or chemistry, with experience in ultrafast pump-probe or ultrafast laser spectroscopy. The position is a temporary 1.5-year externally financed contract, 38–40 hours per week, with a salary of €3,706–€5,760 per month and Dutch university employment benefits.

Apply by 15 November 2026 via the TU Delft vacancy portal with a CV and motivational letter. Further information is available from Professor Laurens D.A. Siebbeles at [email protected].
