About this position

Radboud University is offering a postdoctoral position in NeuroAI focused on biologically grounded neural networks for cognition. The project sits at the intersection of neuroscience, AI, and neurotechnology, with a clear translational aim: to help make brain implants smarter and more adaptable for real-world use.

You will work in an international and interdisciplinary team connected to leading neuroscience institutes in the Netherlands and to the EBRAINS-NEUROTECH infrastructure. The central goal is to develop a tool chain of neural network modules that can perform the perceptual and cognitive processing needed by brain implants, while remaining grounded in what is known about the brain’s own mechanisms.

The work is described as NeuroAI-in-practice: you will build neural network modules for perception and cognition that are both scientifically meaningful and usable by experimental users. The modules should be easy to adapt and deploy, and they should generate publishable scientific insights in their own right.

Two application scenarios guide the research: vision implants and implants for cognitive restoration. A further key challenge is that these networks must run on-device. In collaboration with a postdoctoral researcher from the Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI), you will translate the designs to a neuromorphic architecture.

This role will suit a researcher with a strong background or interest in neural networks, computational neuroscience, cognitive modeling, or neuromorphic computing, especially someone motivated by the challenge of bringing biologically inspired AI into neurotechnology applications. The post is based at Radboud University in the Netherlands.
