About this position

Caltech’s Zhang Research Group is recruiting two postdoctoral scholars in the Andrew and Peggy Cherng Department of Medical Engineering. The lab develops minimally invasive electronics for monitoring and modulating neural circuits, with the goal of understanding and treating neurological disorders.

Postdoctoral Scholar #1: Rodent Stroke Modeling — This role is aimed at candidates with strong rodent surgery experience, especially MCAO stroke surgery. The project sits at the interface of implantable device technology and disease neuroscience, and also involves behavioral assessment and histological outcome quantification.

Postdoctoral Scholar #2: Neural Interface Fabrication and Development — This role is for a researcher with hands-on microfabrication skills to lead device development for implantable neural interfaces. Experience with flexible electronics, device characterization, and in vitro validation is especially relevant.

Prospective candidates should review the lab’s research directions and contact Prof. Anqi Zhang at [email protected] with their anticipated start date, research interests, and a CV summarizing research accomplishments. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and selected candidates will be contacted for interview.

The post also notes that PhD admission for Fall 2026 has been completed. Admitted Caltech students with backgrounds in engineering or science, especially Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Neuroscience, Chemistry, and Physics, are encouraged to contact the PI. Preference is given to self-driven candidates with a solid experimental background.
