About this position

This postdoctoral associate position is based in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology in Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The project centers on comparative and experimental studies of gene regulatory networks that shape color pattern plasticity and evolution in butterflies.

The successful candidate will investigate how changes in regulatory DNA and gene activity contribute to butterfly wing-pattern diversity. The work combines comparative biology with experimental molecular approaches to identify candidate genes and regulatory sequences, then test their function using RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, CRISPR genome editing, and transgenic approaches.

The role is designed for a researcher who can contribute both computationally and at the bench. The postdoc will lead research on how evolutionary changes in gene regulation give rise to phenotypic variation, while also participating in the lab’s broader intellectual exchange and potential collaborations with other groups.

The appointment is in person at Cornell’s Ithaca campus, within commuting distance of Ithaca, New York. Cornell CALS emphasizes interdisciplinary, purpose-driven science, providing a research environment that connects fundamental biology with broad scientific and societal challenges.

The position includes expectations to publish research articles and present findings at professional meetings and conferences.
