About this position
Postdoctoral Associate in Experimental Quantum Science and Quantum Sensing at the University at Buffalo, in the Chand Precision Quantum Lab (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering).
The lab is recruiting a postdoc to help build scalable, multiplexed quantum-sensing platforms based on solid-state spin qubits, especially nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond. The research spans experimental quantum science, quantum sensing, AMO physics, quantum optics, spin physics, precision metrology, and quantum materials.
Research directions include multiplexed quantum sensing, covariance- and correlation-based magnetometry, correlated quantum-noise spectroscopy, nanoscale magnetic sensing, sensing of materials and devices, and AI-assisted large-scale quantum measurement. The role involves designing and operating advanced optical and quantum-sensing experiments, integrating laser/microwave/RF control, building confocal or wide-field microscopy systems, developing automation and data-analysis software, and contributing to publications, mentoring, and lab development.
Eligibility: applicants should have a PhD by the start date in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field, plus strong experimental experience and the ability to independently run and improve lab systems. Experience with NV centers is preferred but not required.
Funding: full-time postdoctoral appointment; salary is commensurate with University at Buffalo and Research Foundation policies. The initial appointment is for one year, with a possible second year renewal depending on performance and funding.
Deadline: applications are reviewed immediately and accepted until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is Spring 2027, with flexibility through August 2027.
How to apply: submit a cover letter, CV with publication list, and contact details for three professional references. In the cover letter, explain how your background fits the Chand Lab’s research directions.
