About this position
Baylor College of Medicine’s Children’s Nutrition Research Center is seeking a postdoctoral associate for Dr. Yi Zhu’s laboratory, which studies metabolic hormones, weight regulation, and therapeutic strategies for obesity and related diseases.
The research examines how current weight-loss drugs work and how more durable weight reduction might be achieved. The lab investigates the gap junction protein Connexin43 and the extracellular matrix component hyaluronan in metabolic organs, including their roles in inter-organ crosstalk and systemic metabolism.
The postdoctoral researcher will engineer novel mouse models to investigate the intrinsic mechanisms of incretin processing and define hormone patterns optimized for weight loss. Building on transgenic animal studies, the project will also involve designing and evaluating new biologics for obesity treatment and related metabolic diseases.
The laboratory combines biochemistry, molecular biology, cell culture, imaging, rodent physiology, and bioengineering. The researcher will contribute to experimental design, biochemical assay development, animal studies, data analysis, scientific reporting, manuscript preparation, conference presentations, and efforts to develop externally funded postdoctoral research.
