About this position
The University of Hong Kong is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics within the School of Public Health. The appointee will join a multidisciplinary research team developing and evaluating natural language processing analytics to improve clinical workflows.
The project focuses on converting lengthy, free-text clinical notes into structured information for large language model-based, human-in-the-loop classification of cancer risk and staging. The researcher will acquire, prepare and annotate clinical text and datasets; develop and evaluate NLP methods; and work with clinicians to assess model accuracy, clinical relevance and usability.
The role also includes supporting population-based cancer epidemiology, investigating AI-generated structured data for clinical research, coordinating interdisciplinary collaborations across computer science, clinical medicine, clinical oncology and surgery, and fostering partnerships with healthcare providers for real-world implementation. Additional activities include research participant recruitment, project coordination and preparation of manuscripts for international peer-reviewed journals.
This opportunity combines clinical information extraction, artificial intelligence, epidemiology and biostatistics in a healthcare-focused research environment at The University of Hong Kong.
