About this position
Postdoctoral Fellow in Neurocognitive Aging at Johns Hopkins University (Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, Baltimore, Maryland, USA).
Audrey Branch’s newly launched lab is recruiting a postdoctoral research fellow for interdisciplinary studies on cognitive aging in a rat model. The project sits within a highly collaborative research program with Drs. James Knierim, Paul Worley, Alfredo Kirkwood, and Ni Zhao, and focuses on hippocampal circuits, behavioral neuroscience, neural recording, cellular/anatomical methods, and translational questions related to age-related memory impairment and prodromal Alzheimer’s disease.
Research directions include excitation/inhibition balance in the aging brain, therapeutic approaches to improve cognition in aging, single-nucleus sequencing to identify vulnerable hippocampal cell types, and viral targeting/manipulation of hippocampal circuitry. The fellow will gain training in animal models of cognitive aging, translational neuroscience, molecular biology, viral methods, computational sequencing analysis, whole-brain clearing (iDISCO), imaging, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Cellular Biology, or a related field by the start date. Ideal candidates will have a strong neuroscience background, experience with systems neuroscience methods, excellent communication skills, strong experimental/statistical training, computational skills, and a record of research writing; publication experience is preferred but not required.
This is a full-time postdoctoral fellowship with salary on the NIH scale plus benefits. The initial appointment is for one year and may be renewed annually depending on mutual satisfaction and available funds.
Apply through Interfolio with a CV, statement of research interest, and three references. The posting is open until filled.
