About this position
The National Research Council Canada is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow in Ottawa for a two-year project on next-generation battery management systems for electrified transportation and energy storage.
The project will develop an NRC-built battery management system integrating a flexible cloud-connected architecture, fiber Bragg grating optical sensor arrays for real-time thermal mapping, and an active cell-balancing prototype that transfers energy between cells rather than dissipating it as heat. The fellow will develop hardware and software, embed FBG sensors into battery modules, support thermal management and fast charging, and benchmark active balancing against conventional passive methods.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or expect to complete one within six months of appointment. Relevant research experience in energy storage, power electronics, or embedded systems is required, along with programming and data-analysis experience using Python, MATLAB, or C/C++. Laboratory experience with battery systems, electronic hardware, PCB design, embedded firmware, IoT, or cloud-connected devices is advantageous.
The position is full-time and requires physical presence at the NRC work location in Ottawa, Canada. The salary is CAD 83,985–116,641, with benefits and a work-related travel fund. Applications require a resume, one-page statement of interest, PhD transcript, and publication list. The closing date is January 7, 2027.
