About this position
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Pharmacology to join the Nugent Lab in Bethesda, Maryland. The lab investigates neural circuit mechanisms underlying mood disorders using mouse models of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).
The fellow will lead cutting-edge experiments, contribute intellectually to project design, and collaborate with a research team pursuing a focused line of inquiry. The research environment combines behavioral neuroscience, electrophysiology, neural circuit manipulation, imaging, and molecular biology. The fellow will also mentor junior laboratory members and contribute to manuscripts, grant proposals, and scientific presentations.
Research activities include complex behavioral assays, ex vivo slice electrophysiology, in vivo fiber photometry, optogenetic and chemogenetic manipulations, stereotaxic rodent procedures, and advanced microscopy and imaging. The role also incorporates specialized laboratory procedures such as biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and RNAscope. Laboratory participation includes protocol optimization, quality control, inventory tracking, reagent acquisition, and equipment maintenance.
The position offers an opportunity for a recent doctoral graduate to develop independent research expertise in pharmacology and neuroscience within a laboratory focused on clinically relevant mechanisms of mood disorders and traumatic brain injury.
