About this position
The University of Kentucky is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join a research team in the Department of Pharmacology and Nutritional Sciences in Lexington, Kentucky.
The project investigates the neural and cellular mechanisms that regulate energy and glucose homeostasis in health and disease. Using a multidisciplinary combination of mouse models and in vitro studies, the postdoctoral researcher will examine how the brain controls glucose homeostasis in normal metabolic physiology, diabetes, and obesity.
The research places particular emphasis on the hypothalamus and the neural circuits involved in metabolic regulation. The work provides an opportunity to contribute to neuroscience and metabolism research involving brain–body interactions, neural control of energy balance, and mechanisms relevant to metabolic disease.
The research environment combines neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology, cellular biology, and in vivo metabolic research. The successful researcher will contribute to studies involving mouse models and laboratory methods addressing neural regulation of metabolism.
Funding details
Salary is commensurate with experience. No specific stipend, tuition coverage, or additional funding details are provided.
What's required
PhD in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Physiology, Biology, or a closely related field. Applicants must have at least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal and research experience with a strong interest in neuroscience, metabolism, diabetes, obesity, or related areas. Experience with mouse models, hypothalamic or neural regulation of metabolism, neural tracing techniques, and stereotaxic surgery in mice is required. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, strong written and spoken English, self-motivation, scientific curiosity, and a strong commitment to research are expected. Experience with metabolic phenotyping, glucose tolerance testing, insulin sensitivity studies, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, molecular biology, or related techniques is preferred. Recent PhD graduates with strong publication records, scientific motivation, and transferable research skills are encouraged to apply; training will be provided for unfamiliar techniques. Required application documents are a curriculum vitae, cover letter, and academic transcript.
