About this position

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow for a 12-month research project, renewable for a further 12 months, conducted through a collaboration between the Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute at UM6P in Benguerir, Morocco, and Mineral-X at Stanford University in the United States.

The project focuses on improving phosphate recovery from flotation tailings through the integration of process mineralogy, mineral processing, and artificial intelligence. The researcher will investigate how particle-size distribution, mineral liberation, mineral associations, and mineral surface properties affect flotation performance, particularly in relation to phosphate and gangue minerals such as silicates and carbonates.

The fellow will characterize feed material, concentrates, and flotation tailings using process-mineralogical methods; test how different grinding energies influence phosphate liberation; develop an AI-driven framework to optimize grinding time while minimizing slime generation; and design laboratory flotation experiments to optimize processing parameters. The research environment is multidisciplinary and combines mineralogical analysis, flotation testing, experimental design, statistical modelling, and computational approaches using programming tools such as Python or Julia.
