About this position
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is inviting applications for an 18-month postdoctoral position at the Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) in Benguerir, Morocco. The opportunity is situated within strategic, industry-linked research projects funded by the OCP Group.
The research focuses on mineral thermal processing and pyrometallurgy, with particular attention to innovative high-temperature routes for transforming, upgrading, or enriching mineral resources derived from complex or secondary ores. The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the thermal and physicochemical properties of minerals and design and conduct treatment experiments including calcination, roasting, and smelting.
The work will also address optimization of pyrometallurgical flowsheets for producing value-added materials or metals. Alongside fundamental investigation, the researcher will contribute to product characterization, process design and modeling, and techno-economic assessment of pyrometallurgical routes.
GSMI works across the mine lifecycle and promotes sustainable mining, circular economy approaches, resource governance, water management, and integrated management of mine discharges. Its state-of-the-art research and development platforms support advanced investigation and technology development in mineral resources and extractive metallurgy.
This position offers a research environment connecting fundamental materials and process science with industrial applications in mineral processing and metallurgy at UM6P.
