About this position
Northeastern University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to develop next-generation electronic devices based on microbially produced protein nanowires. These biologically derived conductive materials provide a platform for sustainable energy harvesting, neuromorphic computing, and biosensing.
The initial research focus is wearable biomedical sensors. The postdoctoral fellow will lead experimental work in device fabrication and characterization, integrate protein nanowires into electronic platforms, and measure their electrical and sensing properties. The project can expand into other device architectures as the research develops.
A synthetic biology team will genetically tailor nanowire properties, including conductivity, analyte binding, and environmental responsiveness, to meet device requirements. This creates an iterative research pathway linking materials design with device performance and enables the fellow to shape independent research directions in an emerging field.
The fellow will join an interdisciplinary program spanning microbiology, synthetic biology, electrochemistry, and materials science. The program combines engineering of tunable protein nanowires with their application in functional electronic systems, supported by state-of-the-art facilities and international collaborations.
