About this position
Cornell University is seeking a Research Associate to join Professor Amit Lal’s Cornell SonicMEMS Laboratory in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The role is centered on strategic research initiatives and broader research group operations within a lab that explores advanced microsystems and nanosystems topics.
The SonicMEMS Lab’s research spans chip-scale communications, sensing, and computation using gigahertz ultrasound; pyroelectric high-voltage generators for gas ionization and detection; NEMS-scale mechanically actuated hyperspectral computation with ferroelectric weight storage; biomedical sensing with CMOS-compatible gigahertz ultrasound pulse-echo arrays; tunneling sensors for low-power RF detection; and ultrasonic and magnetically stabilized levitation for IMU sensor isolation.
The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Lal as a research partner, contributing to experiments, data analysis, proposal development, manuscript and report preparation, conference abstracts, and grant proposals. The position also involves supporting day-to-day lab and group operations, including training new members, overseeing maintenance of key equipment, and managing supply ordering.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible research position within an active university research environment, with responsibilities that include supporting sponsored projects and helping expand the research program.
