About this position
Postdoctoral Fellow in Special Needs Education at the University of Oslo, Norway.
This postdoctoral opening focuses on special needs education, ADHD, and neurodevelopmental disorders. The project will evaluate the impact of a 2024 change to Norway’s Education Act on children with ADHD, especially their transition from kindergarten to formal schooling and later academic outcomes.
The fellow will work with both secondary data and new primary data collection. For the pre-reform period, the project may use Norwegian cohort studies and/or national registries, while the post-reform period will involve collecting new data. The successful candidate will help identify suitable data sources, apply for data access and approvals, obtain ethical approvals, conduct data collection and analysis, and contribute to scientific publications as first author on agreed outputs.
The position is based at the Department of Special Needs Education, Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Oslo. Because the role includes own data collection, the candidate is expected to be located in Oslo.
Eligibility highlights: a doctoral degree equivalent in Special Needs Education, Psychology, or another relevant field; dissertation submitted by the deadline; fluent English; strong quantitative skills; experience with quasi-experimental methods such as difference-in-difference, regression discontinuity, or interrupted time series; and experience with Stata, R, Mplus, or similar software. Experience with longitudinal methods, large datasets, empirical data collection, ADHD or special education research, and Scandinavian language skills are advantageous.
Funding: full-time postdoctoral fellowship for 3 years with 10% required duties, extendable to 4 years with 25% duties depending on competence and teaching needs. Salary is NOK 595,000–670,000 per year plus statutory pension contributions.
How to apply: submit a cover letter, three-page project description with a one-page progress plan, CV, and PhD diploma or thesis submission documentation. If the PhD is not yet defended, include an advisor’s letter confirming expected completion.
