About this position
The Zaleski Lab in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to conduct research in synthetic chemistry, hybrid molecular and nanomaterial catalysts, and catalysis.
The project centers on the design and synthesis of hybrid molecular and nanomaterial catalysts. The postdoctoral researcher will apply synthetic inorganic and organic ligand chemistry, solution-phase molecule preparation, purification, and characterization to advance the laboratory’s research goals. The work may involve air- and moisture-sensitive chemicals and a range of modern analytical methods, including NMR, EPR, IR, mass spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction. TEM and DFT calculations are also relevant to the broader research environment.
Based in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington, the Zaleski Lab is a dynamic, multidisciplinary research group. The fellow will contribute to a growing team, develop and adapt experimental techniques, manage research activities, train graduate and undergraduate researchers, maintain laboratory operations, and help prepare peer-reviewed publications, reports, presentations, and posters.
The research environment provides regular guidance and feedback, opportunities for collaboration with partner institutions and research groups, and experience applicable to both academic and industry careers.

What's required
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry or another area of synthetic chemistry. Experience with inorganic and organic ligand synthesis, solution-phase synthetic preparation, chemical purification, and characterization is required or strongly preferred. Relevant techniques include NMR, EPR, IR, mass spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction; experience with TEM and DFT calculations is desirable. Familiarity with nanomaterials and catalysis is advantageous but not required. Applicants should be able to manage research projects, train students, develop experimental protocols, use specialist laboratory equipment, maintain a research laboratory, conduct literature reviews, publish and present research, and collaborate with partner institutions. Applications must include a cover letter, a research proposal of no more than five pages, a CV, and contact information for three references.
How to apply
Apply through the Indiana University PeopleAdmin posting. Submit a cover letter, a research proposal of up to five pages, a CV, and contact information for three references. Applications without an attached research proposal will not be considered.
