About this position
The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Villigen, Switzerland, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in Zinc Water Chemistry and NobleChem Effects on the Degradation of Light Water Reactor Structural and Fuel Cladding Materials.
The successful candidate will design, conduct, and evaluate experimental studies on the effects of Zinc Water Chemistry (ZWC) and NobleChem on light water reactor materials. Research will address stress corrosion cracking initiation and propagation, corrosion and oxidation of fuel cladding, hydrogen uptake, and the influence of environmental and material parameters. The work will use advanced metallographic, fractographic, electrochemical, microscopy, spectroscopy, and surface-analysis techniques to investigate degradation, mitigation mechanisms, oxide-film composition, structure, and zinc incorporation.
Responsibilities include supervising student projects and internships, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at international conferences, contributing to collaborative research, and providing technical expertise across related projects.
Applicants should have a PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related discipline, with expertise in corrosion, electrochemistry, metallurgy, and light and electron microscopy. Experience with high-temperature water experiments is advantageous. Strong English communication skills and the ability to work in an international, multidisciplinary environment are required; German is an asset.
The contract is for two years, with the possibility of a two-year extension. Applications, including referee addresses, must be submitted online by 4 January 2027. Position reference: 4603-30417.
