About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow on Durability of Composite Materials and Adhesively Bonded Joints at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia.

This postdoctoral opportunity sits in the Physical Science and Engineering Division at KAUST and focuses on the durability, structural integrity, and residual life assessment of composite materials and adhesively bonded joints. The successful candidate will lead an experimental research program involving specimen preparation, mechanical characterization, fatigue testing, non-destructive testing, data analysis, and publication of research findings.

The role is well suited to candidates with a strong background in experimental mechanics, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, aerospace engineering, or closely related fields. The lab environment is multidisciplinary and provides access to established laboratory facilities and experimental equipment. The fellow will also contribute to project reporting, presentations, collaboration with research partners, and supervision/mentoring of PhD and MSc students.

Eligibility highlights: PhD or equivalent is required. The posting specifically asks for hands-on experience with polymers, composites, or adhesive joints; experience with servo-hydraulic or electrodynamic testing; fatigue testing; and working knowledge of fracture mechanics and/or damage mechanics. Peer-reviewed publication record is expected, and fluent written and spoken English is required.

Funding and employment: The position is full-time, permanent, and includes a competitive salary with a generous benefits package. The post is offered from 10 Sep 2026, with an application deadline of 10 Mar 2027. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and may close early once filled.

How to apply: Submit the required application materials via Interfolio, including a detailed CV, a short statement outlining previous work and research vision, contact information for three referees, recent presentation slides, and a representative publication. Applicants are instructed to use the email subject line: “Post Doc-MCEM23–Residual Life Assessment RTR”.
