About this position
The National Research Council Canada (NRC) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow in Ottawa to develop low-cost, high-efficiency propulsion for attritable uncrewed aerial system (UAS) swarms.
The project, “Enabling Low-Cost, High-Efficiency Propulsion for Attritable UAS Swarm,” will investigate a novel inlet architecture for detonation engines. The research combines computational fluid dynamics with experimental validation to assess detonation-engine inlets and their potential for affordable, efficient propulsion in autonomous UAS applications.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, or expect to complete one within six months of appointment. The PhD should generally have been awarded within the past three years. Candidates must have experience in at least two of the following areas: ceramic or metal additive-manufacturing design, advanced cooling technologies, and compressible flow involving shock waves or detonation.
This is a two-year, full-time fellowship based physically at the NRC workplace in Ottawa, Canada, subject to satisfactory progress during the first year. The salary range is CAD 83,985–116,641, with benefits and a travel fund. Fellows will work under the direct supervision of an NRC researcher within a multidisciplinary aerospace research environment.
Applications require a resume, a one-page statement of interest, PhD transcript, and publication list. The closing date is January 7, 2027, at 23:59 Eastern Time. Preference may be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, although applicants of all nationalities are eligible.
