About this position
ETH Zurich is offering a fully funded postdoctoral position in athlete monitoring within the Running Performance Group at the Exercise Physiology Lab, Department of Health Sciences and Technology. The project focuses on developing and evaluating new ideas for monitoring training load and recovery in athletes, with the goal of improving performance and understanding how different sports equipment may modulate load and recovery.
The successful candidate will design and execute studies involving laboratory experiments and telemonitored training/testing sessions, publish research, and lead the development of new protocols and metrics for assessing athlete load-recovery relationships. The role also includes building collaborations within and outside the ETH Domain, pursuing multi-centric studies with sports clubs or teams, presenting at conferences, and supporting teaching plus co-supervision of BSc, MSc, and PhD students.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in Sports Sciences or Engineering in a sports-science context; experience with longitudinal athlete studies; strong coding/data-handling skills; solid biomechanics background with hands-on testing experience; and a good foundation in exercise physiology. English and German at C1 level are required, or a strong commitment to learn quickly. Coaching experience is welcome.
Funding: full-time postdoctoral salary scale at ETH Zurich, initially for one year and renewable up to a maximum of six years.
How to apply: submit the application online only via the ETH Zurich portal. Required documents include a motivation letter, a 2-page research proposal aligned with the project background, CV with two academic references, publication list, statement of three major achievements, and doctoral degree certificate or completion confirmation plus MSc and BSc transcripts. The call remains open until a suitable candidate is found; there is no fixed deadline.
