About this position
The University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) invites applications for a temporary postdoctoral position in autoimmunity and infection in gastroenterology, based in the I. Department of Medicine in Hamburg, Germany.
The immunological research program investigates reciprocal influences between infections and autoimmunity, with a focus on autoimmune liver diseases and inflammatory bowel diseases. The successful postdoctoral researcher will work with complex cell-culture models and primary human blood and tissue samples as part of a larger international team.
Responsibilities include designing, conducting, and analysing experimental studies; applying and developing state-of-the-art immunology, cell-biology, molecular-biology, microscopy, flow-cytometry, and bioinformatics methods; presenting findings at internal, national, and international meetings; preparing manuscripts and review articles; contributing to collaborative projects; and supervising students.
Applicants should hold a completed PhD and scientific degree in immunology, cell biology, biomedicine, molecular medicine, or a related life-sciences discipline. Experience with high-dimensional flow cytometry, cell culture, microscopy, and bioinformatics is required. Knowledge of immunology, ideally NK cell biology, and knowledge of or strong interest in host-pathogen interactions are desirable. Very good English, communication skills, and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration are expected. Proof of measles immunization or immunity is required before employment.
The appointment is temporary for two years because of third-party funding and may be full-time or part-time. Full-time compensation is indicated at €63,600–€91,100 under TVöD/VKA, depending on qualifications and experience. UKE also offers professional development, training, commuting support, health and sports programs, family-friendly services, and a supportive research environment. Apply through the UKE portal by 16 November 2026.
