About this position
Postdoctoral Position in Computational Neurobiology and Dementia Research
The VIB-UAntwerp Center for Molecular Neurology in Antwerp, Belgium, invites applications for a postdoctoral scientist to join the Computational Neurobiology Lab. The project sits at the intersection of computational biology, systems biology, genetics and neuroscience, with a focus on regulatory mechanisms underlying cell-type-specific switching of alternative gene isoforms in dementia.
The research will investigate alternative transcription start and termination site usage in Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Dementia with Lewy Bodies. The successful researcher will build an isoform-specific regulatory atlas for the human brain in health and disease, identify causal regulatory elements and transcription factors controlling isoform choice, and identify genetically supported disease isoforms. Key approaches include single-cell data analysis, multimodal data integration, 3D chromatin organization, epigenomics, gene regulatory network reconstruction, statistical analysis and machine learning.
Candidates should hold a PhD in computational biology, systems biology, bioinformatics or a related field, or a PhD in molecular biology, biomedical sciences or functional genomics combined with strong computational experience. Required skills include single-cell and multimodal data analysis, analysis of gene regulatory mechanisms, knowledge of 3D chromatin organization, and intermediate or advanced programming in R and/or Python. Strong academic performance and excellent English communication and writing skills are expected. Experience with 3D chromatin or proteomics data is advantageous.
The host lab offers two years of financial support, with potential contract extension after positive evaluation, as well as support for applications to fellowships such as FWO, MSCA and HFSP. Researchers gain access to VIB and UAntwerp facilities, training programs, international collaborations and the VIB Center for AI and Computational Biology community. The expected starting date is February 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applicants should submit a CV of up to two pages, a 1–1.5-page motivation letter and contact details for two referees through the VIB application platform.
