About this position
The Nicol & Fassier lab at the Vision Institute in Paris, France, is offering a postdoctoral position in developmental neuroscience and cell biology within the Mechanisms of sensory map development team.
The project is part of the ANR-funded MASTERCIL programme and is led by Melody Atkins. It focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that guide accurate neuronal wiring, with a particular emphasis on the role of the primary cilium in neuronal migration. The team’s recent work suggests that signals generated locally in the primary cilium help steer migrating neurons, complementing the better-known role of the growth cone. The project will investigate how these two command centres coordinate to control migration.
The successful candidate will use cutting-edge approaches including live videomicroscopy, optogenetics, TIRF imaging, and genetically encoded molecular tools to manipulate subcellular signals in in vitro and ex vivo migration models. The work sits at the intersection of neuroscience, developmental biology, and cell biology, in a highly multidisciplinary setting.
The position is hosted at the Vision Institute, which is affiliated with Sorbonne University, CNRS, and Inserm, and provides an environment spanning theoretical neuroscience, developmental biology, and retinal prosthesis research. The appointment is funded for 2 years from April 2027, with the possibility of extension.
Eligibility requirements include a PhD or equivalent in cell biology, neuroscience, or biological sciences, plus good English. Prior experience with live-cell imaging or primary cell culture is welcome but not mandatory. The candidate is expected to work independently in designing and carrying out experiments.
To apply, email Melody Atkins at [email protected] with a CV, a statement of research accomplishments and interests, and the contact details of three references.
More information about the team is available on the lab and institute pages provided in the advert.
