About this position
Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is advertising a postdoctoral position in experimental quantum computing with superconducting circuits at the Chair of Experimental Physics / Institute for Optics, Information and Photonics in Erlangen, Germany.
The research team, led by Christopher Eichler, works on state-of-the-art experimental research in quantum computing, quantum information science, and quantum optics. The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing group and help set up a new quantum-computing laboratory while contributing to the broader goal of building universal quantum computers.
Possible research directions include design and fabrication of next-generation multi-qubit quantum processors for hardware-efficient quantum error correction, novel circuit QED components for fast and high-fidelity gates and measurements, 3D-integrated multi-chip modules, quantum communication and modular quantum computing elements, improving qubit coherence through new materials and chip designs, systems integration and real-time control with machine learning, and tune-up/benchmarking of quantum hardware.
Eligibility: applicants must hold a PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Micro- and Nanotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Strong interest in experimental quantum information processing is required. Preferred experience includes superconducting circuits, trapped ions, semiconductor quantum dots or color centers, quantum optics, cavity QED, cleanroom fabrication, low-temperature physics, dilution refrigerators, microwave/digital electronics, FPGAs, instrumentation, and software development.
Funding: this is a paid, full-time, fixed-term research position with salary according to TV-L E 13.
How to apply: send a single PDF application to [email protected] including a motivation letter, CV, publication list, certificates/transcripts, thesis copies if available, doctoral certificate, and contact details for two references. Two reference letters should be sent directly to Christopher Eichler.
Deadline: applications are considered immediately and until the position is filled; the posting lists 31.12.2026 as the application deadline.
Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
How to apply
Please submit your application including a cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, and contact information for two references. Applications should be sent via the online portal before the deadline.
