About this position
ETH Zurich’s Quantum Device Lab is recruiting Doctoral Students in Quantum Networking with Superconducting Circuits in Zurich, Switzerland. The project focuses on developing a superconducting qubit quantum network and advancing quantum networking applications using a unique two-node platform with superconducting qubit chips, dilution refrigerators, and a cryogenic link.
The research is led by Andreas Wallraff and builds on a platform that has already enabled landmark demonstrations such as loophole-free Bell tests and randomness amplification. The lab is now expanding the system through improvements in chip fabrication, packaging, networking protocols, and distributed control systems.
Research topics include loss-tolerant photonic state transfer, distributed quantum computing, quantum error correction, blind quantum computing, and non-local sensing. Doctoral researchers will contribute to both technical and conceptual work, including electronics and mechanical design, microwave setup construction, superconducting circuit chip fabrication, experiment design, and the implementation of quantum networking protocols on multi-qubit superconducting circuit chips.
Applicants should have a strong interest in experimental quantum information processing and remote/non-local applications. Helpful experience includes superconducting circuits, quantum dots, ion traps, NMR, experimental quantum optics, atomic physics, micro- and nano-electronic fabrication, quantum networking, mesoscopic solid-state physics, low-temperature physics, microwave electronics, digital electronics, FPGAs, instrumentation, drivers, and software development.
The position is embedded in the Swiss Quantum Science and Technology network and the Quantum Center at ETH Zurich, with access to strong infrastructure including micro- and nanoscience facilities. The role is a fixed-term doctoral position at 100% employment with ETH Zurich’s standard working conditions and benefits.
To apply, submit an online application with a detailed CV, publication list, statement of research interests, PDF copies of theses and transcripts/certificates, and names of three references. Reference letters should be sent directly to [email protected]. Applications are reviewed immediately and accepted until the position is filled.
