About this position
The Materials Science, Energy, and Nano-engineering (MSN) Department at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Benguerir, Morocco, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Extractive Metallurgy. This role focuses on developing novel processes to valorise steelmaking by-products, with a specialization in hydro- and pyro-metallurgy. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment within a department that is rapidly emerging as a leader in materials science research in Morocco and Africa, with strong academic and industrial partnerships.
UM6P is a modern, internationally oriented university located in the heart of the Green City of Benguerir. The university is dedicated to research and innovation, aiming to address both Moroccan and African challenges while training the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs. The MSN Department is organized into research clusters such as Energy Transition, Surface Technology and Metallurgy, Polymers and Composites, and Sustainable Materials, and coordinates several Master’s programs.
The postdoctoral researcher will undertake original research of international excellence, develop research objectives and proposals, prepare publications for leading journals, and contribute to national and international conferences. Responsibilities also include communicating research progress to the team, establishing collaborative links with scientific personnel, identifying areas for research improvement, and supporting the development of research funding proposals. The position offers opportunities to work closely with both academic and industrial partners, and to co-supervise Master’s and PhD students.
Applicants must have a PhD in extractive metallurgy or a related field, with expertise in metal extraction, heat treatment, refining processes, and chemical characterization of metals and alloys. Strong communication skills in English and French, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a proven track record in both academic and industrial settings are required. Experience with multidisciplinary teams and a solid publication record are essential.
To apply, candidates should submit a single PDF file containing a detailed CV, a summary of research background and achievements, a research statement (3-4 pages), and one reference letter. The application should clearly mention the job title. For further information, contact Professor Johan Jacquemin at [email protected]. Apply via the provided application link.
