About this position
Postdoctoral position at CNRS, France in physics, solid state physics, surface physics, acoustics, and laser-based shock-wave research.
The project is hosted by the Procédés et Ingénierie en Mécanique et Matériaux (PIMM) laboratory and is part of the LASERSHOW ANR project, in collaboration with the Institut Jean le Rond d’Alembert at Sorbonne University. The work is centered on Laser Shock Peening (LSP), residual stress generation in metals, Rayleigh waves, shock-wave dynamics, and the study of wave reflection regimes in solids.
The recruited postdoctoral researcher will help build and run experimental platforms on the Héphaïstos platform, including a multi-element electronic system synchronized with a laser source, an optical setup for velocimetry, and measurement campaigns on metal samples. The role also includes data processing, finite element modeling where possible, and participation in ANR project activities.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in acoustics, physics, or a related field; strong interest in experimental acoustics and laser techniques; experience with optical assemblies, non-destructive testing, piezoelectric systems, machining, signal processing, and finite element simulation is advantageous. French is listed at a basic level.
Location: Paris 13, Île-de-France, France.
Deadline: 2026-11-05.
How to apply: Submit your application through the CNRS job portal or the Euraxess application page linked in the post. Review the official listing for full details before the deadline.

What's required
The candidate must hold a PhD in acoustics, physics, or a related field. Strong skills in optical assemblies are highly desirable. Knowledge of non-destructive testing techniques and multi-element piezoelectric systems would be a plus. Machining skills are advantageous because the role involves designing and manufacturing samples. Signal processing and finite element simulation skills are also required or strongly expected. French language level is listed as basic.
