About this position
The Institute of Marine Research (IMR) in Norway is recruiting a full-time postdoctoral researcher for a three-year position in marine ecological modelling. The role is part of the Horizon Europe-funded MORSE project, which develops effective and climate-resilient restoration models for European marine ecosystems.
The researcher will contribute to work packages covering restoration pathways, ecological needs of focal species and habitats, favourable reference areas, species distribution modelling, environmental status assessment using NEAT, land- and sea-based pressures, marine protected areas, climate scenarios, and ecosystem services. The work will focus particularly on Norwegian marine ecosystems, including the Skagerrak, Norwegian Sea, North Sea, and Barents Sea.
The position is based in IMR’s Benthic Communities research group and may be located at Flødevigen, Bergen, or Tromsø. The group conducts research, mapping, and monitoring of benthic ecosystems such as seagrass meadows, macroalgal forests, and deep-sea ecosystems. International travel to MORSE workshops and meetings may be required.
Applicants should have a PhD in biology or ecology, preferably ecological modelling, documented modelling experience, and a strong international publication record. Experience with marine ecosystems, ecological restoration or conservation, species distribution models, and data analysis is highly desirable. Excellent English communication skills are required, and Norwegian language training is expected for non-Norwegian-speaking employees.
Applications should include a one-page cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, diplomas, certificates, publication list where applicable, and contact details for two or three referees. The deadline is 30 November 2026. The postdoctoral appointment is remunerated under Norway’s state-sector agreement and includes public-sector pension and other employee benefits.
