About this position
Chalmers University of Technology is offering a postdoctoral position in the Division of Nano- and Biophysics within the Department of Physics and Astronomy in Gothenburg, Sweden. The research explores how optical metasurfaces can manipulate light and matter, combining nanofabrication, advanced optical experiments, and simulations in an interdisciplinary nanophotonics environment.
The project focuses on the design, fabrication, and analysis of optical metasurfaces, their integration with different laser sources, and applications in optical manipulation. Research may include manipulating microparticles in liquids through optical forces or photothermally induced liquid flows. The successful researcher will help define specific research objectives with advisors and colleagues.
Work will include electron beam lithography and other cleanroom processes at Chalmers, fabrication of optical metasurfaces and miniature laser sources, and experimental and computational studies of the resulting samples. The researcher will conduct and present cutting-edge research, contribute to research-lab maintenance, and may participate in undergraduate or master's teaching and supervision.
The postdoc will join a creative, international research setting at the interface of physics, nanoscience, biology, nanophotonics, and light–matter interactions, working alongside researchers in advanced optics and nanoscale optical manipulation.

Temporary full-time employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. The postdoctoral researcher is employed by Chalmers and receives employee benefits; no salary or stipend amount is specified.
What's required
A doctoral degree in physics, photonics, or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years; strong written and verbal communication skills in English; and extensive documented experience with electron beam lithography, preferably in several material systems, optical experiments, and optical simulations. Applicants should be somewhat accustomed to teaching and demonstrate good potential in research and education. Independence, curiosity, resilience in overcoming experimental failures, and strong communication and collaboration skills are crucial. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.
How to apply
Prepare the application in English as PDF files, including a CV with a complete publication list and teaching experience, plus a personal letter covering your background, previous research and outcomes, and future goals and research focus. Submit the complete application through the Apply button/application form on the vacancy page; applications sent by email will not be considered.
