About this position
Postdoctoral research position in stochastic thermodynamics at the Laboratoire de Physique of the École normale supérieure de Lyon, within the CNRS research environment in Lyon, France.
The project investigates the thermodynamics of micro-mechanical resonators coupled to a thermal bath and an externally controlled potential, such as an electrostatic force. Using the framework of stochastic thermodynamics, the research will examine work and heat exchange, the evolution of resonator temperature, and the role of information when feedback is applied to the system.
The position combines theoretical and experimental research. The postdoctoral researcher will optimize a real-time feedback system, carry out measurements with a very low-noise optical detector, and analyze experimental data through stochastic thermodynamics and information theory. The work will also involve modeling experiments, calculating maximum theoretical efficiencies, and developing improvements to an existing functional experimental setup.
The research has fundamental and applied relevance, including the stability of micro-mechanical systems, energy consumption in logic gates, and efficient energy extraction through feedback. The researcher will work under the direct supervision of Ludovic Bellon, Research Director, and participate in the wider ANR VAST project. The local laboratory has approximately 180 staff members, with theoretical developments conducted in collaboration with international partners including A. Prados, C. Jarzynski, A. Imparato, J. Anders, and S. Whitelam.
The role also includes preparing scientific reports and articles, presenting results at international conferences, and contributing to the supervision of interns and PhD students.
