About this position
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Dr. Pritam Mukherjee's lab in AI for medical imaging and biomedical informatics. The research focuses primarily on radiology and applies machine learning, deep learning, and foundational AI models to clinically relevant imaging problems.
The postdoctoral researcher will develop 2D and 3D architectures, including convolutional neural networks, transformers, and vision-language or other foundation models. Projects may address segmentation, detection, quantitative imaging, volumetric and density measurements, and image-based biomarker discovery across CT, MRI, and X-ray data. The role also includes exploring large language models for biomedical and imaging-adjacent applications, from training and fine-tuning to inference and deployment.
The lab works with large, multi-institutional datasets in a data-rich research environment. Depending on the project, the researcher may contribute to data curation and annotation, build reproducible preprocessing and model-development pipelines, and use high-performance computing resources. Collaboration with radiologists, clinicians, and engineering teams is intended to connect technical advances with practical clinical needs.
This environment supports publication, multi-institutional collaboration, translational AI research, and academic career development. Postdoctoral researchers may pursue first-author manuscripts, independent funding opportunities such as K99/R00 awards, and optional mentoring experience with junior lab members.
