About this position

The Sciolino Lab in the Department of Physiology and Neurobiology, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Connecticut (Storrs Campus, United States) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in behavioral neuroscience and systems neuroscience.

This NIH-funded position focuses on how neuromodulatory systems interact with central taste processing regions to regulate behavior. The lab studies how neuromodulatory systems—especially norepinephrine—shape neural circuits underlying motivated behaviors such as feeding, taste-guided behavior, and threat avoidance. Research methods include in vivo neural recordings, optogenetics, behavioral assays, circuit manipulations in behaving mice, histology, and anatomical validation.

The successful candidate will design and lead independent and collaborative projects, develop behavioral paradigms, analyze high-dimensional neural and behavioral datasets, mentor trainees, and contribute to grant writing and independent funding applications. Training and mentorship are provided to support academic independence and future fellowship/grant applications.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in neuroscience or a related field by the start date; strong publication record in behavioral and/or systems neuroscience; experience with rodent behavior and/or in vivo neuroscience approaches; strong communication and organizational skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively. Preferred experience includes in vivo electrophysiology, calcium imaging, machine-learning behavioral quantification (e.g., DeepLabCut, MoSeq), and data analysis in MATLAB, Python, or R.

Funding and terms: full-time, grant-funded, 12-month appointment with annual renewal based on performance and funding availability. Salary range: $63,480–$67,000. The role is covered by the UConn Postdoctoral Scholar union contract and includes benefits such as health insurance, retirement options, and paid time off.

How to apply: submit a cover letter describing research interests, relevant experience, and career goals; a CV; and contact information for three professional references. Apply online via the UConn jobs portal using Search #499663. The position is open until filled.
